I wanted to design a housing for my parachute men from the Toy Story series that would allow me to drop them from an airplane without having them fall out. To achieve this, I needed a few specific components. Firstly, I required one 9g servo motor, which I modified using two 2.5k resistors to extend its range of motion. Next, I used a piece of 3mm material as a hinge pin for the door. Assembling the housing was relatively straightforward: I glued or taped the top panel to the main part and pinned the door in place. Then, I installed the servo motor and connected it to a wire that linked the door to the servo arm. The smaller plate can be attached to the main housing or left off altogether; I opted for the latter so that I could easily remove it when needed. This design allows me to fit two Toy Story parachute men inside comfortably. However, users may need to mold the top of the housing slightly to ensure it clears any control rods within the airplane. Additionally, you'll need to cut a recess in the plane's foam bottom plate to accommodate this new component.
