! This is a work in progress!Parkside Performance Drill StandThe Parkside Performance Drill Stand/Press allows for easy drilling of perfect right angle holes with a Parkside Performance cordless drill. The integrated dust shoe allows for easy dust extraction during drilling. 1. GoalI wanted to design a drill press for my Parkside Performance cordless drill. The drill press should:Hold the drill at 90° against the drilling surface.Be stable (it can't fall over in any orientation).Include an integrated vacuum adapter for dust extraction.Be (mostly) 3D printed.Connect easily to the drill.Allow full usability of the drill (all knobs should be accessible). 2. DesignI took inspiration from several sources including commercially available products and this similar design from Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2781236The design relies on 3 main pieces, the Base, the DrillClamp and a Spring. The basic idea is that 2 guide rods stick out from the Base, over which the drill will move up and down. the DrillClamp is used to guide the drill over these guide rods. a Spring ensures that the drill is pressed back up (away from the base) when not used.2.1 The BaseThe base serves as the solid base of the drill clamp as well as holds the guide rods. The drill goes through the centre hole. Along the inside of the hole is an integrated dust shoe that allows the drill debris to be vacuumed away using a vacuum adapter.I opted for using 2x 12mm by 250mm steel guide rods as i could get these cheaply from Aliexpress. The mounting holes for the guide rods are notched. this allows for some expansion of the plastic to ensure a straight fit of the guide rod.I used a vacuum adapter that i have from a cordless Parkside Delta sander, it has a rectangular connection of 11mm by 35mm. 2.2 The drillClampThe drillclamp connects the the drill to the guide rods. Because my drill doesn't have any easily available mounting points I opted to use 4 frame screws at the front to mount the drill to the clamp. These screws can be unscrewed without the frame of the drill falling apart.the drillclamp is designed to slide over the drill and screw in place. The clamp fits around all the knobs on the drill. The integrated bushings for the guide rods are notched to increase fit as well as decrease sliding friction. 2.3 The SpringThe spring wraps around the guide rods and pushes the drill+drill clamp back up after being pushed down during drill operation. The basic design of the spring is a stacked X-shape accordion spring. After several designs the current design consists of 5, stacked, X-shapes angled a 60°.! The spring is still in design! 3. To DoAs this thing is still a work in progress there are still some things to do. If you have any suggestions let me know.Rework DrillClamp.Add rigidity.Add cross-brace.Add Water levels.Design Spring. - IN PROGRESSDesign depth gauge.Design Vacuum adapter (3d printed version of my current Parkside adapter). 4. PrintingThe parts have been designed to be printed easily on my MK3S printer without any supports. Both the base and the drillclamp are made of PLA using a 0.6mm nozzle. print settings are: 4 top+bottom later, 3 shells, 15% Grid infill. The spring is made of TPU 98A. print settings are: t.b.c 5. AssemblyAfter printing add some graphite powder to the guide rods and drillclamp bushings(crush a pencil lead to a fine powder in a Mortar and pestle, as a cheap and easy way of getting graphite powder). Graphite powder acts as a solid lubricant decreasing the friction between de bushing and the guide rods.insert the guide rods through the drillclamp and move it up and down a couple of times to ensure smooth motion.insert both rods into the base. The clamp will act as a guide to ensure the rods go into the base straight. The rods might need some light taps with a mallet to fully insert.Unscrew the 4 screws at the front of the drill and insert them into the clamp. Place the drill in the clamp and tighten the 4 screws to mount the drill onto the drillclamp.
