Parking Assist Stop Ball
thingiverse
Ball designed to be hung from garage ceiling to assist in identifying when vehicle has advanced the correct distance into the parking spot. Or hang where ever you require an interesting floating STOP sign. I use fishing line and hang so that ball contacts windshield when pulled in. I suggest hanging ball such that it will NOT contact painted surfaces of the car. Note: if using PLA, ensure ball does not directly contact hood of car since excessive heat from hot engine may cause PLA to melt/warp. Ball diameter approximately 133mm (5.25 in) in diameter at 100% scale. 75% will be roughly the size of a softball. The ball has a center pocket which can be optionally filled with some additional weight (sand, rocks, pennies, ball bearings, lead fishing sinkers... or whatever) to prevent the ball from blowing in the wind when garage door is opened. The cap inserts into the base and turns 90 degree to snap into closed position to prevent added weight from falling out. UPDATE: I noticed the ball weighed enough to on its own to not require additional weight. I have added a version which does not use the plug or require any supports. See "Stop Ball No Plug" file for the single print solution. Easy to print, no supports needed.
