Paris's Pinnace - Saltash, Cornwall
sketchfab
This is the former steam vessel that served as a tender to the French Battleship Paris, which docked at Plymouth when France fell during World War II. The Battleship Paris was one of the initial Dreadnought-class battleships commissioned by the French Navy, categorized under the Courbet class. During World War I, Paris played a role in the French Navy and later became associated with Operation Catapult, a captivating yet contentious operation during World War II. The site was documented as part of our survey of HMS Defiance, a First World War training facility, through our Heritage Lottery-funded Forgotten Wrecks of the First World War initiative. It has previously undergone extensive study by the SHIPS project based in the region: http://www.promare.co.uk/ships/ The steam vessel remains submerged in Sand Acre Bay, Saltash, Cornwall.
