Paranthropus aethiopicus was discovered in Lomekwi, West Turkana, Kenya. This fossil dates back to around 2.5 million years ago. A detailed epoxy resin cast was made from the actual fossil. The dimensions of the Paranthropus aethiopicus cranium are quite notable: it measures 215 mm in length, 150 mm in width, and 105 mm in height. This particular fossil is known as "black skull." Alan Walker discovered the original fossil in 1985. A nearly complete cranium was preserved, which made it an incredibly valuable find. The Wenner-Gren Foundation Casting Program at the University Museum of the University of Pennsylvania created a high-quality cast from the fossil. This model is part of the teaching collection at the Research Laboratories of Archaeology, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Chloe Scattergood designed the cranium model that has been used for educational purposes.
