Parametric Wire Spool

A versatile cable organizer, the parametric spool is designed for managing loose hookup wires and other cables. Its scalable design makes it easy to print in various sizes, while minimizing material usage. This spool can also be used for small quantities of filament, as long as you have a large enough printer to handle the task. The two parts are simply glued together after printing, with epoxy being a popular choice, but super-glue and ABS-juice also work well if the part is printed in ABS. To create your custom spool, use the provided customizer or download the OpenSCAD script and modify it to suit your needs. The default dimensions are suitable for small hookup-wire spools, but you can adjust them to fit your specific requirements. For example, a smaller spool for hookup wire is shown in the photos here, which was created by remixing the customizer settings. When mounting the cable spool on a bar or rod, it's recommended to set the Hub Inner Diameter about 5mm larger than the diameter of the rod to ensure smooth rotation. By adjusting the Socket Clearance setting under advanced options, you may be able to achieve a push-fit assembly, eliminating the need for glue depending on your printer's capabilities.
