Parametric Spool Roller
thingiverse
On 13-02-12, the SCAD file was updated, incorporating guards and larger radii where the bearing should sit, to address clearance issues during printing. An additional 1mm of space was added. A previous update on 13-02-10 included outer spool guards for better stability. However, inner guards might still be required. The design was derived from Thing:22579 and optimized for minimal material usage and elimination of overhangs. Printed versions with as little as 15% infil (PLA) have been successful. The file is parametric but untested for a wide range of spool sizes or bearings. Currently, 608 bearings are used, although the design should accommodate others. Additional threaded rod, bolts, smooth rods, or filament bundles can serve as support. A guard to prevent spool dislodgement from sides is still under consideration. The provided .STL is for a 204mm diameter and 72.5mm wide (including walls) spool.
