Parametric Simple Clip-On Fan Mount
thingiverse
After John's well-made clip fan mount for his Maker Gear Mosaic, I attempted to create a parametric version in OpenSCAD. Though it's not as visually appealing, creating smooth curves is challenging in OpenSCAD. This is my first OpenSCAD post and design; it might contain errors. Before printing, double-check the design. If you come across any issues, let me know. The subsequent version of fanmout2.scad rectifies bugs and adds rounding as per Hank's suggestion. I tried to remove unnecessary base material by intersecting it with a larger circle, similar to John's original design, but struggled with the translate requirements for varying parameters. Maybe another day! Uploading a new picture to showcase the roundness didn't work on the site today. FanWidth is set at 89 (fan width) and FanID is FanWidth-4 (inside fan diameter, typically less than the width). BoltClear (bolt clearance hole size), BoltInset (fan mounting holes' inset from edge), LipWidth (lip overhang width), LipDepth (far lip edge depth, sets clamp size), and ClampWidth (mount material thickness) are other parameters. Rounding determines corner roundness, while FaceAngle affects curve smoothness and rendering speed.
