Parametric Secret Box Improved Locks
thingiverse
The Parametric Secret Box by juangrs is a fun design. I printed the 10x10 version and found that I could make some improvements to the locks. I used the modified parts as my first projects in Fusion 360. I made some buttons with different thicknesses so that they can match the squares on the side, since the original button was so tall it was obvious. The file names give the height of the square portion of the button. I also wanted to use buttons on all 4 sides, so I modified the lid to have slots for the locks. The holes in the sides of the original design aren't exactly the same size, so I had to shrink some of the buttons by 1% to get them to move easily. Print the buttons with the square face up so that you get the same surface quality as the lid and sides. I used support for the angled surface on the back of the the buttons. I redesigned the retainer clips and the locks on the wall to give more surface area to glue. The decoy buttons are held in place with the lock3 pieces. These can fall off if you push the buttons in too far, so maybe they are worth modifying further to give more surface area for gluing. I also modified the locks that fit into the lid to be more flexible. With the button configuration I did, the lid has a nice pop up when you get all of the locks open. Print each side with the squares face up. The lid needs support around the edge. This dual-color filament really looked nice. I used concentric layers for the top and the bottom to keep the dual-color look. Using this, I had to orient the buttons properly to get the same pattern. Some of the fake buttons have to be rotated to have space for the locks.
