Summary: Need some high-tech deck boxes with awesome texturing, friction-fit lids, beveled edges, and support for custom emblems? Create a monstrous script in OpenSCAD to generate everything from scratch, and hand-trace emblems as needed using Inkscape! Instructions: PRINTING: Slice any of the deckbox_*.stl files with 1 extra shell and 10% infill if your nozzle width is 0.4mm and layer height is 0.27mm. Update printer-parameters at the top of deckbox.scad to get a model that slices with excellent floors and sleeve-walls. ADJUSTMENT: If the lid doesn't fit perfectly, adjust "sleeve_xy_gap" in the script for a precise fit on your printer (the variable has additional documentation). ADJUSTMENT: This design accommodates roughly 60 cards in card-sleeves. Adjust "deckbox_width", "deckbox_depth", and "deckbox_total_height" to achieve the desired cavity-size. EXPANSION: Create new deck boxes using different emblems by creating a line-segments-only dxf with Inkscape and calling deckbox_plate() as needed (see examples in deckbox.scad). NOTE: Check out hexagon_lattice_bounded() and beveled_cube(), as they should prove to be reusable in other designs. HISTORY: The printed generations were: SirGronk's design, which printed with a tight fit on my printer, inspiring me to create the OpenSCAD script that went beyond original intentions. After building the basic deck box script, I found it difficult to use OpenSCAD to slice emblems off SirGronk's models for grafting purposes. Reconsidering my plan, I switched to re-creating emblems entirely and added raised hexagonal tiles, but they felt like a turtle-box instead of high-tech-box. The raised-hexagons were turned into ribs on the sides, and the emblem was given a frame to clean things up. Unfortunately, there were positioning bugs that caused slicer hiccups. Fixing most positioning bugs, I tried again, but sadly the emblem floated off the surface by an imperceptible distance, making it non-existent once sliced. I went on a bug-safari and cleaned up the entire script to stamp out existing bugs and reduce regression in the future. The printed Shaper box was of gift-quality, so its paired Haas Bioroid box was printed and queued for gifting. After showing my dad the printed history, he suggested putting the emblem on both sides, which led to trivial modifications, slicing, and printing to create the final iteration ready for gifting.
