Parametric Rope Thimble
thingiverse
I required a thimble for my anchor mooring to shield the mooring rope eye from wear and tear caused by the shackle. Barnacles attach themselves to the rope, shackles corrode over time, and this can eventually damage the anchor line. This also offers the benefit of being non-conductive for long-term saltwater applications. Print in nylon for added strength or ABS for cost-effectiveness. The amount of strength depends on the number of layers used and the fill percentage. I printed enough layers to create a solid unit. Print flat with no support required. On the upper outer curve where the overhang exceeds 45 degrees, slow down the print speed and/or use cooling specifically for these layers only. If using ABS, complete the process by finishing with an acetone vapor bath to enhance layer bonding, strength, and surface finish.
