Here is a basic Venus Flytrap Planter design that I came up with using some pretty ridiculous parameter names. The planter will be made from a simple cylinder of glass, with a diameter of 5 inches and a height of 8 inches. The top will have a slight lip to prevent the flytraps from getting wet when it rains. I've included a small compartment in the side for storing water and nutrients for the plants. This will be fed by a tiny pump that draws water from a larger reservoir below. The water level is monitored by a sensor, which triggers the pump to refill the compartment as needed. The Venus flytraps themselves will be planted in individual cups of soil, each with its own irrigation system that delivers just the right amount of water and nutrients at the right time. I've also included some built-in LED grow lights, which will provide supplemental light during the winter months when natural sunlight is scarce. The plants can be easily removed from their cups and pruned as needed to keep them healthy and thriving. Oh, and one more thing - I've included a little "trap" door on the side that allows you to add fresh fly food (yes, really!) for your carnivorous plants to chomp on. It's just a fun feature, but it's definitely a conversation starter!
