Parametric Pen
prusaprinters
No more losing your pens! This is parametric pen, which you can put a label on. Because who wouldn't want a pen with their name printed as the shape of the pen. You should be able to size it to slip over a Bic pen, or to use as a barrel of a pen kit. While this wasn't exactly derived from http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:17339, it was certainly inspired by it. I built it in OpenSCAD, to make sizing and text generation easier. Updated so that the pen's face is at z=0, making it easier to print. Instructions Download pen.scad. Aldo, download write.scad and your desired fonts from (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:16193) . I use that library to generate the text. Edit pen.scad to sed the desired dimensions. That is: d = 10; // outer diameter of pen (whatever size you like to hold) in mm id = 8; // inner diameter, measure to fit your existing pen nib, etc. h = 100; // height of pen, length of body u = 2; // additional letter height beyond body of pen. // uncomment one to set font //f="braille.dxf"; // braille f="orbitron.dxf"; // cool modern font //f="letters.dxf"; // the default font // text to embed in pen, don't make it longer than the pen body or things get weird label="laird@popk.in"; // your name here For one color printing, set c=0, generate the STL, and print it. For two color printing, set c=1, compile, and generate an STL, then set c=2, compile, and generate the other, then merge for Dualstrusion and print. At least, I think so - I don't have the Replicator yet so I can't be certain.. If you like my name, print the STL files that I've attached as examples. There are four little cubes around the objects, used to force alignment of the two STLs for merging. They aren't a part of the pen, so you can do whatever you like to them. This is a 'work in progress' because I haven't printed it yet, but I'm practicing modeling for dualstrusion and sharing the objects in case anyone else is interested. These giles made it through ReplicatorG, so I think they'll print. I'm hoping that two color personalized pens will be a popular present for friends and family. I'll let you know in a month or so.
