Parametric linear bearing housing SCxUU
thingiverse
Here is an attempt to create a parametric version of the famous SCxUU type linear bearing housing/holders. This design features a snap-in bearing system, where you simply click your bearings into place as the inner rims will hold them securely in position. The fastener holes are designed small enough to accommodate an M4 tap for thread creation; screwing them in without a tap also works effectively. Feel free to experiment with different approaches! The rendered STL file included can support RJMP-01-08 linear bearings with a diameter of 16 mm - note that RJ4JP-01-08 bearings are slightly smaller at 15 mm, and you can easily modify the design parameters in Fusion360 to generate your own custom STL files. I replaced the metal blocks on my extruder carriage with this design, resulting in a significant reduction in noise levels. The next step is replacing the heatbed carriage bearings, but it might be wise to widen the gap between screw holes slightly, as they were initially a bit too tight. P.S. I must mention that I didn't choose or purchase that tablecloth; fortunately, my wife has now begun to share my opinion on its need for replacement... :) Edit: I've successfully installed bearing housings and Igus-style bearings on the y carriage, which has greatly reduced noise levels during printing. Now, I can print in the living room without disturbing my wife when she's watching TV! :)) I used purchased bearings for these upgrades, but I'm also experimenting with creating my own printed POM bearings using designs found here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2476782 and here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2464185
