Johnny Chung Lee's $14 DIY Steadicam design (http://littlegreatideas.com/stabilizer/diy/) has a camera attachment that uses a wing nut and washer, causing issues when the camera is not attached. To simplify this, one can create a plastic knob fitting around the nut, serving both purposes. For this, OpenSCAD proved to be ideal due to its ease of customization. It offers files for 1/4-inch and 3/8-inch screws compatible with most cameras and alternative tripod heads. This is a versatile tool for attaching cameras to homemade camera mounts. Print the desired size (1/4 inch or 3/8 inch) and insert an appropriate nut in the opening, which can be held firmly as it cools down. Alternatively, glue it in place. A neoprene washer on top ensures even pressure against the camera base. To use it, loosen the knob, attach the camera to the bolt, and tighten the knob against the camera base for secure placement.
