Parametric Horizontal Spool Roller (for rostock-mini, Octave, MakerGear, othes)
thingiverse
This parametric horizontal spool roller is designed to hold a spool of filament above the top frame of your 3D printer, such as a slightly modified Rostock-mini. It can also be used with any flat surface. The STL files provided work with spools that have 31mm and 50mm holes (Octave and MakerGear). If your spool sizes are different, you'll need to modify the SCAD file and re-generate the STL files accordingly. Additionally, you can adjust the arm length or base/shield height in the SCAD file. Before printing, it is recommended to print the testPrint.stl file to ensure proper fit for your spools, 608 bearings, and expansion ring. If any part doesn't fit correctly, adjust the "calib" setting or spool radius in the SCAD file and reprint. The provided parts require two 608 bearings, a M8 bolt with four nuts (and optionally four washers). For assembly, insert both bearings into the designated pieces, followed by the bolt. Add washers and nuts as specified to achieve the desired height of the "head" above the mounting plate. Attach the shield piece, if used, and secure it to your chosen mounting surface with a hole drilled at the appropriate location. Various modifications can be made according to preference, such as omitting the shield or changing washer placement. Overall, this spool roller is versatile and easily customizable to fit individual printer setups.
