Parametric Gimbal, prints already assembled
thingiverse
The Replicator 2 printer can print a neatly designed gimbal that assembles on its own. It optionally features a 7mm ball bearing gravitovectometer, which clicks into place and functions like an accelerometer but provides only a vector rather than a rate. This gadget is fun to play with; simply hold it upside down and blow on it, making the middle parts spin rapidly at 90° angles. It could also be a valuable tool for teaching 3D graphics about gimbal lock. The collaborative creation was made using MakerWare's 'medium' profile, with a layer height of 0.2, and PLA plastic. Nonetheless, other sizes remain untested.
