Parametric Gimbal

Parametric Gimbal

thingiverse

An update on my project reveals a customizable version, available at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:73634. This improved design boasts enhanced tolerances and an OpenSCAD that's been parameterized. Customization options include the number of rings, ring thickness, width, spacing, pin radius, and center hole size. The new design allows pins to print resting on the next ring's hole, providing natural support and better shape. Rings are also slightly thicker than previous ones to maintain pin centering. Printing without supports or rafts is recommended, with settings at 10% fill, 2 shells, and a .27mm layer height. Initial stiffness may be experienced but playing should loosen joints. If printing six or more rings, it's suggested to adjust ring width accordingly to prevent pop-off. A recent update allows center hole size adjustment as well. The creator also added a desk stand's .scad file.
