Parametric Gear Toy
thingiverse
A custom gear toy design based on the parametric spur gear. The four gear teeth counts are adjustable parameters that can be modified to achieve a desired gear ratio. Three M5 threaded thumbscrews keep the gears securely in place on their shafts. For an alternative design, check out the bearing-based version of this gear toy. This design exposes several top-level parameters: * `TOP_GEAR1_TEETH` - The number of teeth on the right gear (default: 35) * `TOP_GEAR2_TEETH` - The number of teeth on the middle gear above (default: 16) * `TOP_GEAR3_TEETH` - The number of teeth on the middle gear below (default: 33) * `TOP_GEAR4_TEETH` - The number of teeth on the left gear (default: 24) * `TOP_GEAR_SHAFT_DIAMETER` - The diameter of all gears' shafts (default: 7.5mm) * `TOP_GEAR_HEIGHT` - The height of all gears (default: 5mm) * `TOP_GEAR_SCALE` - A scaling factor for the gear teeth to compensate for material shrinkage and printing accuracy discrepancies (default: 0.925) To address potential binding or slop in the gears, adjust the `TOP_GEAR_SCALE` parameter within its range of 0.0-1.0. If you encounter issues, consider adjusting this parameter accordingly.
