This is a floor drain filter I made for easy cleaning and to prevent pipes from getting clogged.

The attached STL models have a diameter of 150mm and they filter out residues of 2mm and larger but also work well as hair catcher. You can customise the filter using the attached SCAD file. They are two grill patterns to choose from; honeycomb and square. Additionally you can generate a full filled model and a modifier template to be used with the PrusaSlicer software. Please check this Prusa's blog post for further instructions.

Generating a parametric filter seems a fortiori a good idea. It permits to have better control over the pattern generation. However slicer programs might not produce excellent results when drawing tiny repeating patterns. Slicer application use better algorithms to generate infill patterns choosing a convenient toolpath for our printers. Below is an illustration showing, side by side, the toolpath for the designed pattern (on the left) and an infill pattern generated by the slicer software (on the right).

The infill toolpath is continuous meanwhile the toolpath for the predesigned pattern is discontinuous which cause more retractions, longer travel distance and consequently longer print time. According to our objectives; one method or the other should be selected.
