Parametric Cup Holder for Vertical Poles
thingiverse
My friend is on crutches and asked if I could make a cup holder for them. I've never seen one like that before and thought it would be pretty funny (in addition to practical) so I made this parametric design in OpenSCAD. The defaults are the dimensions that we needed, but obviously every case will be different, so there's no STL provided (but you can use the Customizer button to generate one online). There's a hole for a bolt, but if you size it correctly (or slightly too small, like we did) then you won't need it. NOTE: the clamp works by flexing, not a hinge, so you can only use this for poles you can slide it over. Customization Notes: Probably the clamp would work better at 4mm thickness rather than the default of 5mm, as it was a little stiff (but also very sturdy even without a bolt, so if you're confident in your measurements, 5mm may be preferable). Make sure to use an odd number of holes so the clamp isn't over one. I tried a decent range of values and the design seemed to come out well for all of them, but it isn't guaranteed to work with extreme parameters. There's still lots of room for improvement (notably the hole count issue and also the fact that the clamp tabs are parallel rather than angled so they close nicely) I didn't fix these because they didn't matter for my use case, but if you remix the design then I'd be happy to see your improvements.
