This OpenSCAD script generates a 2-part, hinged, bolt-on holder/fixture for attaching a small packaged sensing device (e.g., a custom WIMU) to a round shaft or bar. The fixture can be used with golf clubs, tennis racquets, pipes, cylindrical bar stock, walking sticks, etc. The design is highly parameterized and allows users to adjust the size according to their specific requirements. To use the script, measure the diameter of the device and shaft, then modify the source files accordingly (currently sized for a 10mm shaft holding a 32.7*38.66mm packaged item). Adjust the variables in the OpenSCAD code and choose options such as mouse_ears. Print out the top and bottom half of the object, clean up any rough edges, and drill out the hinge pivot hole on both parts. Assemble the top onto the bottom part of the hinge, insert a 3mm printing filament through both parts, fix in place with glue or acetone on the bottom part only. Insert a nut into the recess on the top part and thread a matching bolt of appropriate length upwards through the corresponding hole in the bottom part and onto the shaft item before mating and securing with the bolts. It may be helpful to coat the rounded recesses that correspond to the shaft with rubberized paint or foam for a secure fit. Finally, insert the sensing device into the provided void and record data with the device attached to the rod-like item.
