Customizable Holder for Cuboid-Shaped Handheld Devices Like Smartphones and GPS Units A fully customizable holder is designed specifically for cuboid-shaped handheld electronic devices such as smartphones, GPS units, various sensor handheld devices etc.. The holder can be mounted with its cylindrical (or rather octagonal) part to a round clamp of adjustable size. Initial parameter settings make this holder ideal for the Voltcraft PL-125-T2USB and PL-125-T4USB thermometers. To secure it, a 2 mm foam layer is mounted on three sides. The next print would have inner width and depth reduced by 1.5 mm. ## Parameters The main adjustable parameters are: * device width, depth and play in the holder * holder wall thickness * connector wall thickness * holder height * holder cutout width and depth (to reach the buttons and ports of the device) * diameter and width of the clamped part, and distance to the holder Some parameters are interdependent, so they must be adjusted in a certain order. This could be fixed in a future version. For now, follow the instructions in the `.scad` file to adjust them in the right order. ## Future Improvements This thing is not yet perfect, also because I'm not an expert in OpenSCAD yet. Future improvements that I want to make (or that you can make in derivatives, if you want): 1. Add holes or attachments to fix cables with cable ties to the back of the holder or the connector walls that connecting to the clamped part. 2. Make the angle of the inner chamfers around the bottom wall configurable using an angle as parameter. 3. Fillets where the connector walls attach to the back of the device holder. 4. Make the calculations that align the inner chamfer intersection line with the corner of the bottom wall cutout automatically. Currently this needs adjusting a parameter with visual feedback until it fits. 5. Separately printable glue-on enclosure that gives the clamped part a properly cylindrical shape instead of the octagonal shape we use now for single-part printability. 6. Option to use chamfers rather than rounded edges around the bottom, in parallel to the chamfers we need inside for printability. This would save material when printing and result in the same wall thickness for the whole holder.
