Parametric caliper fits over steel ruler

Parametric caliper fits over steel ruler

thingiverse

I made this simple caliper with deep jaws to measure RC car tie rods without the tire interfering. Works well as a portable caliper so you can leave the good one at home. Small differences in lettering from prototype in photo and the parametric caliper. Tips are 2.5mm so add 5mm when taking ID measurements. ID+5 debossed in the caliper head to remind you. Caliper moves freely with some wobble a gentle pinch will hold moving jaw square in place to read or transfer measurement. Edit Sketch and Extrude 1 to create your ruler in fusion then the rest of the timeline will build the caliper around it. If your ruler is unusually thick and the chamfer cuts through the caliper body, increase the offset in sketch 2. The final steps in fusion move the parts to a small footprint and rotate them to ideal printing orientation. Only support needed is on the moveable jaw as the 45° overhangs elsewhere will print fine. STL file is mine from Mr Pen 150mm scale. It is recommended you edit the f3d file to customize.
