Parametric cable gland (fitting) with metal set screw & nut
thingiverse
This is version 2 of my updated cable gland design. The previous model included a 3D printed set screw, but it had a major flaw: small 3D printed screws can be brittle and break easily, limiting the amount of torque that can be applied. To overcome this issue, I've replaced the 3D printed set screw with a regular metallic M3 screw and nut, allowing for increased tightening torque. This design also features an integrated snap-off tab inside, which acts as both a filler and insulation to protect the cable from damage caused by the screw. The tab is securely held in place by the inner texture strands and breaks off when you tighten the screw, pushing against the cable (see attached images). In summary, this design offers several key advantages: - A regular M3 metallic screw and nut secure the cable, enabling a higher tightening torque - An integrated snap-off tab serves as both a filler and insulation, increasing the tightening surface area and preventing damage to the cable - The inner texture strands hold the tab in place, providing improved cable grip
