Parametric Bicycle Water Bottle Mount Point
prusaprinters
My youngest wanted a water bottle mounted to his bicycle, so I came up with this model in an afternoon. The model is parametric, so if you have Fusion360 (hobbiest version is free for Windows and Mac users, Linux users may get it to work with Wine and tears) you can hopefully get something working. If you don't have Fusion360, let me know what diameter bicycle frame you have and I'll post a model for you.To spin up your own model appropriate for your bicycle, you just need the diameter of your bicycle frame and the type of screw your bottle holder uses. Standard screw size for mounting water bottle holders to a bicycle frame is an M5 screw.Updating the Parameters in Fusion360Open the design in Fusion360Select Modify → Change Parameters Update the Expression column with appropriate measurementsClick OKIn the Browser menu, right click on the root entry and select Save as MeshAdjustable ParametersDiameter - This is the diameter of the bicycle frame where you want to mount the water bottle.Rise - This is an optional parameter. My son's bicycle frame is somewhat rectangular, so I added some additional height to the model to keep it from slipping and rotating around the frame. If your bicycle frame is circular, set this value to 1mm.Screw - Metric screw size. If you're using an M5 screw (the standard for mounting water bottles on bicycle frames) set this to 5. NutWrenchSize - This is the width of the nut, from flat side to flat side. This is equivalent to the size of wrench you'd need to hold the nut. This value is used to create a void for a nut to be pressed into the printed model. For an M5 screw, this should be 8mm.NutThickness - This is the maximum thickness of the nut. For an M5 screw, this should be 4.7mm.Parameters for other metric screw sizes can be found here: https://www.slideshare.net/tejasudas/dimensions-of-metric-hex-nuts PrintingI printed in PETG with three perimeters. Supports shouldn't be necessary as the bridges are fairly small. The bottle holder I used was this one: https://www.printables.com/model/32158-asa-bottle-cage-openscad-modelMountingYou'll need two screws, two nuts, and three large zip ties.Press the nuts into the printed model.Tighten a screw from the other side to pull the nut into place if necessary.Remove the screws.Place the mount on your bicycle frame.Apply, tighten, and trim the zip-ties.Mount your bottle holder.
