This project was inspired by things found on Thingiverse, such as http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3981 and http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5584. Upon completing my Mendel printer, I plan to print a roller bearing. In addition, I've been experimenting with OpenSCAD to create a script that generates either complete printable bearings or just the races, including an optional ball cage. Ultimately, I want a lookup table of common bearing sizes. The script is parameter-driven but does not have error-catching features, so be cautious when generating files with dimensions that don't match (e.g., OD larger than ID). The parameters include: - OD: Outside diameter - ID: Inside diameter - B: Thickness - Cage: Draw a cage to hold the balls (yes/no) - Balls: Draw the balls (yes/no) - Calc_no_balls: Calculate the number of balls (yes/no) - Ball_num_override: Manually set the number of balls if above = NO
