Parametric ball and socket with internal socket
thingiverse
The purpose of this model is to enable you to create various configurations by designing ball and socket joints that can be easily incorporated into other models. This will allow you to manipulate relevant parameters, making it simple to print and test a wide range of configurations. To achieve this goal, the basic design philosophy focuses on ensuring that the joint can be printed without supports. The ball part of the joint is strategically cut off before any overhangs reach 45 degrees, eliminating the need for support structures. Additionally, the internal structure of the socket side features a teardrop shape instead of a perfect sphere. This deliberate design choice prevents the necessity of printing supports. The parameters that can be adjusted to fine-tune the joint include: ball_radius = The outer radius of the ball part wall_thickness = The thickness of the walls in the ball part slot_width = The width of the slots along the ball part socket_gap = The gap spacing between the ball and socket parts socket_fraction_enclosed = The fraction of the socket radius that is enclosed
