Parametric 60:1 Gear Train w/ Escapement

Parametric 60:1 Gear Train w/ Escapement

thingiverse

To create a gear train in MCAD, I designed a parametric script that utilizes three pinion wheels to decrease rotation by 60:1 for an escapement wheel. This serves as proof of concept for a printable clock, where if the escapement rotates once per minute, the other end will rotate hourly. The use of three pinion gears instead of two allows for easier printing with larger teeth and fitting within the build platform. An odd number of gears between hands results in opposite rotation directions. Additionally, the gear train's animation can be controlled via the rotation_angle parameter, ensuring correct speeds and mesh. A GIF showcasing the moving gear train is available in the comments. The ratios are set at 5, 4, and 3 but can be customized easily. This project is not intended for printing but could be combined with a previous test jig if desired.
