The lab equipment designed by this organization is open source and affordable. Check out the micromanipulator, ideal for use in a laboratory setting. Videos show its precision. Optional motors enhance functionality, but manual knobs also work well. Find the design files on Thingiverse (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:263125). Customize variables like X/Y/Z range and sliding gap in the manipulator's source code. The design is inspired by Backyard Brains' "Searcher" manipulator. Arduino and Processing scripts offer 3-axis control of servos without shields. Updates improved stability, precision, and compatibility with Arduino joystick shields. Videos showcasing the micromanipulator are available on YouTube. For assembly instructions, refer to the included "manipulator assembly instructions.pdf." You'll need M4 and M3 screws, grease, a dremel, and superglue (optional). Motorized versions cost under $20, while manual versions cost under $5. Connect Arduino and joystick per the "Servo4" code instructions for optimal use. Be cautious when using a 9V battery to power the setup to avoid damaging your Arduino.
