paracord tensioner

paracord tensioner

This is a versatile rope tensioning device that I created for 3mm and 4mm utility cord. The goal was to produce a paracord buckle that's lightweight, strong and easy to use while hiking and camping. This device weighed in at about 0.2 oz and is sturdy enough to use for tarps and tents. It was modeled after a climbing ascender but it should be clear that you shouldn't use this device for climbing or load lifting. The tensioner utilizes an elliptical cam with toothy-looking ridges to lock the cord down and a small rubber band to keep the teeth engaged. You will also need a 3mm x 10mm bolt and nut to hold the parts together, preferably a nylock-style nut but a regular hex nut will work fine too. The 5mm hole in the base plate allows for mounting and rigging hardware with various options including an S-hook or mini carabiner, tie-downs or screws. If you ever use paracord, you'll find this device has many uses. Print Settings: Printer Brand: RepRap Printer: prusa i3 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.3 mm layers work fine Infill: 30% min Notes: while prototyping, I printed in pla with no support and didn't have any issues with overhangs. I found a great rubber band to use. Try the bands from a rubber band bracelet loom. They're available at most department or craft stores (in every color imaginable) and cost almost nothing.
