Paracord Marlinspike Container [Proto-1]
thingiverse
When two creative projects intersect, something amazing happens. I recently purchased a hand-forged paracord spike from Jig Pro Shop and was immediately drawn to its rugged design. However, upon closer inspection, I realized that the spike was smaller than I had anticipated. Instead of relegating it to the depths of my marlinspiker's toolbag, where it would likely remain forgotten or become a victim of careless handling, I decided to get creative in Blender. Measure twice, cut once - that's what they say, right? The design I had envisioned was a container with an interlocking lid featuring a series of lanyard holes. However, my first prototype fell short of expectations due to some rookie mistakes. The locking tabs were woefully thin and snapped off immediately, while the lanyard holes were too small. This is where prototype 1 stands, but I'm already looking forward to refining it with threaded parts in prototype 2. The overall aesthetic I had in mind was a nod to traditional marlinspikes, complete with a thinned-out section perfect for tying a Turk's Head knot or any other wide, decorative knot. If you see potential in this design, feel free to remix and build upon it! I'm always eager to see what the community comes up with. Take my work and make it your own - break it down and rebuild it! On a related note, I've discovered that using borosilicate glass for my printer bed eliminates the need for heat. A liberal spraying of Aquanet does the trick! And in another surprising twist, my TronXY XY-2 seems to work better after it completely broke down - who knew?
