The legendary shoes from Papillon Hall are said to have been owned by Old Pamp, the Spanish mistress of David Papillon. According to reports, she was confined to the attic of the house, where she would exercise on the roof during her imprisonment. Tragically, Old Pamp met a mysterious end around 1715, with no official record of her passing. Years later, in 1903, workers renovating the hall stumbled upon a hidden body walled up near the attic, sparking rumors that it was hers. The shoes are allegedly cursed, with local legend claiming they would bring death and disaster to anyone who takes them out of the house where Old Pamp once walked. Today, these historic shoes can be seen on display at Harborough Museum in Symington.
