Paperclips are the ultimate bookmark! They print quickly and easily, come in a variety of colors, and are nearly impossible to break accidentally since they don't protrude too far from the book. I personally use them for university texts because I need to keep track of multiple page references, and they hold up well inside my backpack without breaking (although my classmates always seem to swipe mine).
