Paper Dance - Orizuru
sketchfab
I've finally put Sketchfab's stop-motion animation feature to the test. I've always wanted to create an animated tutorial on folding an Orizuru, also known as the classic origami crane, so this was a perfect opportunity. After building each model for the animation (a total of 35 models with 63 lines of text instruction), I realized it would be fun and engaging to make it more like a dance. The crane's color scheme is based on the iconic Red-Crowned crane, a popular subject in traditional Chinese and Japanese art. By writing this, I learned that Orizuru actually pays tribute to the Red-Crowned crane. This project was a fun mindless activity, and it's great to know how easy it is to set up stop-motion animation, as well as its limitations (one material) compared to skin animation, which I normally do. The source image and information can be found on Wikipedia.
