It was part of the development process that eventually led to the production of the Tiger II (King Tiger) heavy tank. The VK 45.02 (P) prototype featured several distinctive design elements, including a forward-mounted turret and a unique suspension system. It was armed with an 88 mm KwK 36 L/56 gun, similar to the one used on the Tiger I tank. The Porsche Tiger, while innovative in some aspects, had issues with weight distribution and mobility. The prototype was ultimately rejected in favor of the Henschel Tiger II design, which became the production version of the Tiger II tank. The Henschel Tiger II featured a rear-mounted turret and addressed many of the mobility and weight distribution problems found in the Porsche Tiger. While the Porsche Tiger itself didn't enter production, its development played a role in the refinement of the Tiger II design.
