The Panzerkampfwagen IV, known as the Panzer IV for short, was a German medium tank developed during the late 1930s and widely used throughout World War II. Its official inventory designation was Sd.Kfz. 161.\nBuilt to provide heavy artillery support, the Panzer IV wasn't designed to take on enemy armor – that job belonged to the Panzer III. Yet, as the Panzer III's shortcomings became clear and Soviet T-34 tanks began to dominate the battlefield.
