Panzer II is the generic term for a German battle tank employed during World War II. Officially known as Panzerkampfwagen II, abbreviated PzKpfw II, it was designed to serve as a temporary measure until more advanced tanks became available. It saw significant action early in the conflict, particularly during battles against Poland and France. By 1942, frontline service for this tank had diminished substantially, with its production ceasing entirely by 1943. Nevertheless, its chassis went on to be utilized in the creation of various armored vehicles. Most Panzer II variants were equipped with a 2 cm KwK 30 cannon featuring 55 caliber lengths. Later iterations opted for the 2 cm KwK 38 L/55, which was structurally similar. This gun, modeled after the 2 cm FlaK 30 anti-aircraft cannon, allowed rapid fire rates of up to 280 rounds per minute. In comparison, this rate is remarkably high for a battle tank of its time.
