A versatile reconnaissance tank, the Ausf. L outshone all Panzer II designs with its ingenious overlapping road wheels that enabled it to enter mass production successfully. From September 1943 through January 1944, 100 Ausf. L tanks were manufactured, complemented by the conversion of four Ausf. M models. Initially designated as the experimental VK1303, it earned recognition under the alternate name Panzerspähwagen II and gained widespread acceptance as the Luchs (Lynx). The Lynx surpassed the Ausf. G in most dimensions (4.63 meters in length; 2.21 meters high; 2.48 meters wide). It featured a sophisticated six-speed transmission (plus reverse) that allowed it to achieve an impressive speed of 60 kilometers per hour with a range of 290 kilometers. Advanced communication equipment, including the FuG12 and FuG Spr radios, were installed onboard. In addition, the tank carried 330 rounds of 20 mm ammunition and 2,250 rounds of 7.92 mm ammunition. Weighing a total of 13 tons, this armored vehicle was the result of collaborative modeling efforts between TOBY and me.
