CARTIER International SNC, also known as Cartier (/ˈkɑːrtieɪ/; French: [kaʁtje]), designs, manufactures, distributes, and sells jewellery and watches worldwide with a focus on luxury goods. Louis-François Cartier founded the company in Paris, France in 1847 and retained family control until it sold its controlling stake in 1964. The headquarters of CARTIER International SNC remain located in Paris although it has been part of the Swiss Richemont Group since then. Cartier's high reputation is a direct result of their production of some of the world's most renowned luxury jewellery items for years. In the Forbes' rankings for 2018, Cartier came in at number 59 among all global brands. Over time, royal families around the globe have chosen Cartier for their bespoke luxury needs including many historic occasions. Notably, King Edward VII was an important client for the brand during his reign as King of Great Britain and gave them a seal of approval referring to Cartier as the "jeweler of kings" and later issuing a special warrant in 1904 for purchasing several tiaras at an occasion when the entire British monarchy attended the event in which they had all acquired Cartiers’ high-end products. The royal family, besides King Edward VII, from Spain, Russia, Siam (Thailand), and Portugal have also obtained warrants of approval. They were able to trust Cartier due to its quality products that made it popular even then.
