Panteón de Salvador García Botí (Escaló) This elaborate tomb belongs to the prominent family of Salvador García Botí, alias Escaló, who founded a thriving textile company known as the Fábrica de Paños de Salvador García. The project was commissioned by his family and entrusted to renowned architect Vicente Pascual, also the mastermind behind the family's grand palace, Casa d'Escaló. The striking sculpture is titled "Amor más allá de la muerte" (Love Beyond Death), but it has become famously known as "La Plorona" (The Weeping Woman). This poignant work of art embodies the essence of melancholy. According to local legend, it was inspired by the tragic story of García Botí's mistress, who was expecting a child but died of heartbreak when she learned of her lover's passing. However, the family has since disputed this narrative. Architect: Vicente Pascual Sculptor: Eugenio Carbonell Year: 1911 Style: Art Nouveau / Modernisme Location: Cementerio de Sant Antoni Abad, Alcoy (Spain) Portrait of Salvador García Botí
