Spice Up Your Pandemic Board Game with Semi-Realistic Virus Shapes. Viruses Come in Four Basic Shapes: Helical, Spherical, Polyhedral, and Phage. Adding Realism to the Game. I matched a disease from each of the four colored regions to one of the basic shapes. There are many options and lots of interesting reading if you're curious (which I recommend). I chose... Helical - The Tobacco Mosaic Virus. This virus is commonly used in research applications in Europe and North America, so I printed it blue. Polyhedral - Polio. Although on its way to eradication, polio remains in regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan, which is why I printed it black. Spherical - Bird Flu. The H5N1 strain was first isolated from a goose in China in 1996. It's a good reason for me to print it red. Phage - Cholera. Found all over the world, particularly in regions with limited access to clean water, so I printed it yellow. Making Cure Markers Easier to See. I had trouble seeing if the cure markers indicated that a disease was eradicated or not, so I came up with a solution. I recommend printing four new cure tokens in different colors and swapping the X in each for another color. Simply press the X into the cure marker, use glue if it doesn't stay on its own, and the result is much easier to see. Research Labs Get an Upgrade. Microscopes are now included in the game.
