Team PANDA [Zurich, Switzerland]: We propose a new 3D printed spring loaded and adjustable PEEP valve that uses conical bicycle hub springs. These springs are found in most countries and are quite uniform in size. We attach great thanks to Enrico Bassi for pointing out these springs to us! The PEEP valve attaches straight to the standard Ambu Bag connector, which is 30 mm. There's also a base version with a 22 mm male connector. The springs are slightly stiff for this job, so the pressure range of 5-20 cmH2O takes place in the first few turns. For the sealing surface, you can use a square piece of rubber (approximately 27x27 mm). Thick gloves or bike innertube will also work. If you want to print it with something like TPU, there's a file for that as well. Please note that this is NOT a medically approved device and is not intended for medical use. This might be interesting for teams trying to build ventilator prototypes who don't have a PEEP valve on hand. We've attached all STEP files in case you need to make changes for your setup. Please upload any derivative that's helpful for other teams. WARNING/DISCLAIMER: We've tested these on our PANDA ventilator test bed, but we can't compare it to a medical PEEP valve since we don't have one. Someone with a medical PEEP valve should print ours and compare/benchmark it against the medical one. Please post relevant findings in the comments. These are not medically approved and should not be used on humans. Use at your own risk and liability. The spring is magnetic, so under no circumstances bring this device near an MRI. PRINTING: Print without supports as shown in the Cura picture. This is crucial to get a good seal! If the thread is too narrow, scale the cover in the X,Y-direction only. TESTS: We were able to adjust the PEEP pressure within the necessary range of 5-20 cmH2O. While leaking slightly in the lower pressure range, it kept the levels surprisingly accurate.
