The Pancor Jackhammer, a unique 12-gauge gas-operated bullpup automatic shotgun designed by John A. Anderson in 1984 and patented in 1987, boasts an unconventional revolver design made of lightweight Rynite polymer components. Despite capturing the interest of several foreign governments and initial production orders, the Jackhammer was held up for U.S. Department of Defense testing, eventually facing rejection. With no customers or interest, Pancor Corporation went bankrupt, leaving only three working prototypes. The distinctive aesthetics and futuristic design of this shotgun have made it a sought-after prop in action films, TV programs, and video games. Notably, the Jackhammer features an innovative anti-personnel device called the Bear Trap, which allows the loaded cylinder to be converted into a mine-like mechanism capable of firing up to 10 shells at once, either manually or via a timer set for up to twelve hours in one-hour intervals. Development on this concept was completed by 1994.
