Title: Pan Artist: Emil Wolff (1802-1879) Date: Medium: Marble Dimensions: Accession #: 1977P227 Credit: Inventorid 1977 This sculpture portrays Pan, the Greek god of woods, fields, flocks and herds. He is shown carrying his famous reed pipes, used for playing music to charm the nymphs. In Wolff's sculpture Pan holds a wine jug and a cup, making a nod to Bacchus, the Greek god of Wine, who Pan often accompanies. Born in Berlin, Wolff relocated to Italy where he served as director of the St. Luke Academy in Rome. This object is part of "Scan The World".
