In 1988, the French authorities made a decision to fill a gaping hole in their modern pistol inventory. Unfortunately, no domestic manufacturer was available to meet this need. As a result, the Beretta 92G pistol was specially designed - a variant tailored for the Gendarmerie, which was subsequently adopted by the Gendarmerie Nationale de France in 1989.
