Palmer Corner-Notched (1010a4)

Palmer Corner-Notched spear point is discovered at Hardaway site (31St4), located in Stanly County, North Carolina. This early Archaic tool dates back to around 8000-7000 BC and is crafted from metavolcanic rock. Its measurements are significant, with a length of 42.6 mm, a width of 20.8 mm, and a thickness of 8.0 mm. The spear point is cataloged as number 1010a4 in the North Carolina Archaeological Collection at Research Laboratories of Archaeology, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Furthermore, Palmer Corner-Notched spear point is featured in The Formative Cultures of the Carolina Piedmont by Joffre L. Coe, Transactions of the American Philosophical Society vol. 54, pt. 5, 1964, Figure 59. A detailed model of this significant artifact has been created by Stephanie Grant and Steve Davis.
