Pallas (Athena) with the Parthenon
myminifactory
Many gods in Greek mythology had remarkable births. Athena, the goddess of wisdom and patron deity of sculptors, was born when Zeus swallowed her mother, only to emerge from his head fully formed. In Rodin's sculpture, the goddess appears to give birth to a new creation - the Parthenon, considered by Rodin's contemporaries as the pinnacle of intellectual and artistic achievement. The polished features of her face contrast sharply with the roughly chiselled hair and body.
