Paint Rack from Old Filament Spool
thingiverse
I've designed a system to repurpose an old spool of PLA, specifically the Anycubic model without a large hole. My goal is to organize my paints. I have some Citadel/Tamiya Paint that are short enough to fit inside the spool wheel with diameters ranging from 33-35mm. To accommodate these paints, I created a top roof for them using Vallejo colors. The roof consists of three concentric circles of paint, with washes placed in the inner circle. In the center circle, I added some holes for brushes. You'll also find a base with space for a bearing ring, specifically designed for fidget spinners measuring 20mm in size. To print this system, you'll need to create the following components: Vallejo Floor: You can print it in three different ways: a) Print four "Quarter_Spool_Vallejo.stl" files and then glue them together using the alignment teeth. b) Print a single "Spool_Vallejo.stl" file, which is a single piece suitable for the top floor or if you disassemble the spool. A minimum bed size of 200x200mm is required. c) Print a "Spool_Vallejo_13mm.stl" file, which is similar to the previous one but reduces instability when rotating on top. Citadel/Tamiya Floor: You can print it in two different ways: a) Print four "Quarter_Spool_Citadel-Tamiya.stl" files and then glue them together using the alignment teeth. Note that you'll need to mirror two of the four pieces since they're not symmetrical. b) Print a single "Spool_Citadel-Tamiya.stl" file, which is a single piece suitable for the top floor or if you disassemble the spool. A minimum bed size of 200x200mm is required. Top Floor Center: To fill the center hole, print the "Center_Spool_Brush_v2.stl" file, which adds eight Vallejo slots and some brush slots (8mm, 5mm, and one 12mm inner). Spool Rotation: To make the spool rotate, you'll need to print two pieces: "Spool_Base_Fix.stl" and "Spool_Base_Rot_V2.stl". Join them with a bearing ring, specifically designed for fidget spinners measuring 20mm in size.
