Painel Central da Ermida de São Pedro da Ribeira
sketchfab
The Chapel of São Pedro da Ribeira, supposedly founded in the 17th century, was rebuilt at the beginning of the 16th century to house the Brotherhood of Faithful God, as testified by the commemorative stone placed inside. The temple, to which a new gallery with five rounded arches was added in the 18th century, essentially results from the late-15th-century remodeling of the Manueline building, which incorporates various structural elements. The chapel stands out particularly for its rich decorative program on the inside, including a set of wall paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries, whose main composition is the late-Gothic fresco on the fundal wall of the chapel, depicting São Pedro sitting on the papal throne with traditional insignia, surrounded by rural scenes in distinct planes (including an exotic representation of an elephant), clearly derived from erudite sources despite its ingenuous and popular craftsmanship.
